Step-By-Step Concrete Coating Installation Guide

What You Can Expect When Installing Concrete Coatings With Concrete RX

Explore our entire process from consultation to completion.

Step 1

  • Initial Consultation & Project Assessment

We start by discussing your project goals, space usage, and design preferences to determine the best flooring solution. Our team then inspects your concrete surface for moisture issues, cracks, or damage that could impact the installation.

Step 2

  • Surface Preparation – The Most Critical Step

Proper surface preparation is the foundation of a long-lasting epoxy or polyurea flooring system. Instead of ineffective methods like power washing or acid etching, we use industrial diamond grinders and shot blasters with HEPA filtration for a clean, dust-free, and properly profiled surface.

Why We Don’t Use Acid Etching or Power Washing

❌ Acid Etching: Creates an inconsistent profile, can leave behind residues, and doesn’t open up the pores of the concrete enough for proper adhesion.

❌ Power Washing: Only removes surface dirt—it does not roughen the surface or remove contaminants trapped in the concrete.

    Our Superior Surface Preparation Method

✅ Industrial Diamond Grinding: Removes surface contamination, old coatings, and weak concrete while creating a consistent surface profile for proper adhesion.

✅ Shot Blasting: Blasts small steel beads at high velocity to deeply profile the surface, ideal for heavy-traffic and industrial applications.

✅ HEPA Filtered Vacuums: Capture 99.97% of dust and airborne particles, ensuring a cleaner, safer worksite and preventing dust from contaminating the new coating.

This process ensures that the base coat properly bonds with the concrete, preventing peeling, delamination, or premature failure.

Step 3

  • Crack & Surface Repairs

Any cracks, holes, or surface imperfections are repaired with industrial-grade fillers and patching compounds to create a smooth, even surface before applying the coating.

Step 4

  • Moisture Testing & MVB Application (If Needed)

Excessive moisture in the concrete slab can cause bubbling, peeling, or coating failure. We perform moisture vapor testing to determine if a Moisture Vapor Barrier (MVB) Base Coat is needed to seal the concrete and prevent long-term issues.

Step 5

  • Base Coat Application

Depending on the system selected, we apply a high-performance polyurea, epoxy, or MVB base coat designed for superior durability, adhesion, and chemical resistance.

Step 6

  • Decorative Flake, Metallic, or Solid Color Application

This is where your chosen design comes to life. We apply decorative vinyl flakes, metallic pigments, or a solid color coat to achieve your desired look and texture.

Step 7

  • Protective Topcoat for Maximum Durability

To ensure long-lasting protection against wear, chemicals, and UV exposure, we apply a high-wear urethane or polyaspartic topcoat. This enhances:

    ✔ Scratch & Chemical Resistance

    ✔ Slip Resistance (Optional)

    ✔ UV Stability (Prevents Yellowing)

    ✔ Overall Floor Longevity

Step 8

  • Final Inspection & Walkthrough

Once the coating has fully cured, we conduct a detailed quality inspection to ensure flawless installation. We also provide:

✅ Maintenance Guidelines to keep your floor looking new

✅ Curing Time Details so you know when it's safe to use
